2012 SUSI Begins at Ball State

The 2012 SUSI for Student Leaders on New Media in Journalism at Ball State University began Monday with a Welcome Breakfast attended by the SUSI participants from Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, as well as Ball State faculty.

Roger Lavery, dean of the College of Communication, Information and Media, told the students he was honored they were on campus and hoped they would enjoy their time and studies at Ball State.

Classes and workshops for SUSI are based on a “News” curriculum developed jointly by faculty in the Departments of Journalism and Telecommunications that focuses on multi- platform storytelling and new media.

Students also heard remarks by Charles Payne, BSU assistant provost for diversity, who lectured on cultural differences that participants might encounter while in the United States.

The day also included a visit to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, a walking tour of campus and a group picture at Beneficence, the bronze statue that has symbolized Ball State since the statue’s completion in 1937.
